Hello and welcome,

Edinburgh West End Bowling Club (EWEBC) began in 1864 and celebrated our 150th (Sesquicentennial) Anniversary in 2014.  Special events were arranged throughout the year to celebrate with members, fellow bowling clubs and the wider Tollcross community.  Without the support of people within the area and the many members who have come and gone, the club would not have made it to this special time, we would like to thank everyone past and present.

There has not always been a bowling green situated where it is today as these maps show :

In 1851 there is no Bowling Green but by the time a new Ordnance survey was completed in 1877 the Bowling Green can now be found.

In 1964 to mark a special 100 years, a Centenary book was published this is located in the National Library of Scotland (NLS) you can find this book at shelf mark HP2.88.4822 in the General Reading Room at the George IV Bridge Library

As a competitive bowling club, we are members of Bowls Scotland who run national championships, regional knockouts and the national teams, Edinburgh & Leith BA who look after Edinburgh’s county teams as well as Knockouts with the prestigious Tait Trophy (Edinburgh’s champion of champions).  Edinburgh Bowling League has a league setup with five 1st XVI team, three 2nd team & three 3rd team division in the gents category and 2 Ladies division.  EBL also run a team Cup tournaments and Knockout.  Edinburgh’s Top 10 Association are responsible for the Top 10, this setup covers all variants of the game of bowls, 1 Rink, 1 Triple, 1 Pair and a Single.  The winners of this tournament go on in a Scottish wide Top 10 to become National Champions.

Our seniors are members of South Edinburgh Seniors BA where they play Leagues and Knockouts, and our Ladies are members of South Edinburgh Ladies BA again with Leagues and Knockout tournaments.
